Diary: Darren's dilemma

VCCP's Darren Bailes has found himself in a bit of a quandary recently owing to his agency's participation in the BMW pitch.

It seems the creative director has come up against one of advertising's toughest choices: agency or home life?

On the one hand, VCCP has the chance to win an iconic advertising account that will make the agency and its owners (who are still working towards a fat earn-out) a lot of money and may see him get a pay rise.

On the other, his wife is a shareholder in WCRS, the incumbent agency that will, should his pitch idea triumph, lose the account.

Obviously, advertising being the kind and friendly industry that it is, his workmates have not been shy in poking fun at his predicament and have even gone so far as to accuse him of purposely chucking the pitch by coming up with rubbish ideas.
