DIARY: Eloise Smith flies the flag with fencing gold

While some creatives' sporting pastime only stretches to the strenuous task of playing table football, a copywriter at Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R has rather grander credentials.

Eloise Smith has just won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Australia at the age of 24. Smith won the women's foil individual event, and contributed to the British women's team bronze.

Smith, who had barely started primary school when she began learning to fence, has no family history in the sport. But having a skill with a sharp pointed object is doubtless handy at keeping the suits in check at those lengthy status meetings.
