Diary: Emotions run high as C4 staff look to future

The run-up to Christmas can be an emotional time. For media traders, things can become fraught as sellers spend weeks arguing with buyers over their share of next year's ad budgets. Combine this with vast quantities of booze, and the potential for disaster is obvious.

Can this be the reason, then, that a fight erupted between members of Channel 4's sales team in a Victoria hostelry, which required the intervention of the Met? Or perhaps they were just distraught that their chief executive, Andy Duncan, had pulled the plug on the merger plans with five?

Sadly, a Channel 4 spokeswoman was unwilling to elucidate. "We'd rather not say anything about that," she said.
