DIARY: Fee fi foe fum, I smell the blood of Graham Hinton ... er, so what?

What do you do if you spot an old foe at a party? If you’re Tim Ashton, you let bygones be bygones, stride purposefully through the crush and shake the offending party firmly by the throat.

The picture below shows what could have been an ugly scene when Ashton

saw Graham Hinton for the first time since Hinton had fired him from his

job as executive creative director of Bates UK.

The contretemps took place during a leaving bash for a Bates creative

team in the months in between Hinton hiring Jay Pond-Jones as Ashton’s

replacement and Hinton being given the elbow.

’It was more embarrassing for Graham than it was for me,’ says Ashton,

who went on to become a founding partner of Circus. ’It’s not as if I

sat at home all bitter and twisted and brooded about it,’ he added, from

the luxurious standpoint of gainful employment
