Here’s Francis Goodwin, the joint managing director of Maiden Outdoor,
on top of Ben Nevis. Some might wonder why he went there. Well, it’s
because he just had to rise to the challenge of climbing it, together
with Scafell Pike and Snowdon - the highest mountains in Scotland,
England and Wales, respectively - in 24 hours for the Reading Rotary
He and several others managed the climbs in 23 hours 49 minutes and
raised pounds 12,000 for charity.
Rumours that the expedition was a thinly veiled drive to expand Maiden’s
sheetage have been vehemently denied.
‘There’s not a word of truth in the talk that I erected a Maiden site on
all three peaks,’ the entrepreneurial Goodwin insists, although he does
not deny that the idea had crossed his mind.
