Diary: Hard work keeping pace with the elusive Mr Lace

Over the past few months, Garry Lace seems to have become even more elusive than the bastard offspring of the Scarlet Pimpernel and the Abominable Snowman, but this certainly hasn't stopped most of adland from having a bit of a gossip.

In fact, Lace's absence has only heightened people's unerring desire to know what he's up to and where he's going to pop up next.

Well, with its ear to the ground, and its fingers in pies, Diary has compiled a list of unconfirmed rumours of what he's going to do next.

Welcome, one and all, to the first instalment of "Lace Watch".

As more rumours abound, Diary will try to keep its loyal readers up to date on what Lace is up to, but in the meantime, here's the list ...

1. Has secured a management job in an ad agency and will announce it very soon (100 to 1 outside bet).

2. Harbours ambitions to become a butcher in Chiswick High Street or a baker in Clapham High Street. Half-a-pound of sausages or a currant bun, anyone? (50 to 1).

3. Going to be a glorified print sales rep in the North (25 to 1).

4. Joining forces with Gay Haines to work as a headhunter - she placed him at Grey and Lowe (6 to 1).
