Diary: Harrison uses pitch to boost party numbers

One sure-fire method of ensuring a good turn-out for your birthday celebrations if you're a well-known client is to send out your invitations mid-pitch.

This is what the Muller managing director, Andrew Harrison, did ahead of his 40th birthday. Agencies pitching for the business were left in a quandary about how to handle the invitation. Would their acceptance or denial influence the decision of the pitch? And if they lost the pitch, would it be acceptable not to turn up?

Those joining the beanfeast included Judy Mitchem, the head of new business at M&C Saatchi, which failed to win the buisness, and her partner, Neil Dawson, the executive planning director at TBWA\London, which ... er ... did.
