Diary: Hytner to the rescue

The Red Knights, the group of "high net worth individuals" attempting to raise some £1 billion to buy Manchester United from the US Glazer family, have called in some expert communications advice to help their cause.

Richard Hytner, the worldwide deputy chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi, has joined the group in his capacity as the president of the Manchester United Supporters Trust.

The passionate Red, who, unusually for a Manchester United fan, claims to have been born "within 15 minutes of Old Trafford", might not be able to contribute as much financially as some of the other members of the group but is revelling in The Sun's description of him as "the Roy Keane of the Red Knights".

Hytner's brother Jim, the chief executive EMEA of Universal McCann, has also offered informal advice to the Knights, but with the ad recession in full swing, it's doubtful that either Hytner will be the next chairman of United.
