Despite the dark economic cloud that has hung over the media
industry this year, people still dug deep for the eighth annual charity
auction for the Pepper Foundation recently.
Once again the event for the foundation, which raises money to provide
in-house nurses for families with terminally ill children, was held in
the WCRS bar. As the drinks flowed, media bods bid furiously for top
prizes, including VIP tickets to the Orange British Grand Prix and
tickets to the Ryder Cup.
The foundation has raised more than £500,000 in the past three
years.
"It is testament to the generosity of a really bloody cynical industry,"
Marc Mendoza, one of the patrons, says. "We're all softies really."
