Diary: Ironside strikes it lucky

Once a trader, always a trader. Mike Ironside, the chief executive of the National Readership Survey and a former Mail on Sunday managing director, just can't stop making deals.

Last week, when strolling past an Oxfam shop in Covent Garden, Ironside spotted an expensive car pulling up and its owner depositing several crates of donations outside the shop.

After rooting through the loot, Ironside settled on three framed prints. The shop managers asked Ironside for £12 each for the prints, an offer he readily snapped up. On returning to the office, he discovered that the prints were limited editions by the artist Matthew Radford and sell for at least £500 each. The canny Ironside has loaned them to the NRS but intends to take them with him when he eventually moves on.
