Diary: Kaye show, but no tell

Tony Kaye, equal parts genius and wild man, visited McCann Erickson's offices last week to regale assembled adlanders with colourful stories from his life on and off the rails and career in film, advertising and music.

The LA-based director, now ably sporting a big beard and mad scientist hair, also sang a few songs from his repertoire. The assembled crowd was treated to a rough cut from his latest film Detachment, a surrealist drama about the decline of the education system in American high schools, starring Kaye's daughter Betty. Diary hears the film is in true Kaye style: ie. very dark. And he had some words of wisdom for today's adlanders. According to Kaye, you must "show but don't tell". You have been warned.
