Diary: Listen to Rory roar

Volcanic ash cloud permitting, the IPA departs for China this week to help convince Chinese clients to use IPA agencies when globalising their brands.

Euro RSCG, McCann London, M&C Saatchi and Ogilvy Advertising are among the agencies representing the UK, with some of their top brass heading off for the jolly, sorry, "mission".

In order to get into the spirit of things, every company profile on the IPA's website has been translated into Mandarin, which has certainly thrown up some interesting nuances.

And the translation of one particular industry figure caught Diary's eye, when, appropriately enough, it was discovered that the IPA president Rory Sutherland's Chinese name comes out as "cuddly tiger from the land of rain".
