Diary: Lutke gains victory of sorts in Gumball rally

While WCRS was busy winning 3 last week, there were bigger fish to fry for its IT honcho, Gary Lutke, who was tootling about among all the Ferraris and Lamborghinis at the star-studded Gumball rally to Cannes.

Far from fitting in with the likes of Jodie Kidd in her Maserati, Lutke and his co-driver, John Docherty, skipped the flashiness, entering the competition in a Citroen 2CV. They picked up the car for £650, got someone to kit it out and went on to win the 3,000-miles-in-six-days extravaganza.

The win wasn't about being first over the line (which by all accounts would have been rather more of a challenge - the Barcelona to Cannes section, which should take four hours, took the boys 12), but rather about the "spirit of the Gumball", Lutke claims.
