DIARY: This McCann proposal leaves Diary staff cold

We all know how the troubles of McCann-Erickson run deep: it has lost Birds Eye, Mother's doing the current campaign for Coca-Cola, and there's that nasty ongoing Securities & Exchange Commission probe into its finances.

But rest assured. The agency's working on its comeback. In London, Rupert Howell has taken the helm and Robert Campbell is going to sort out the agency's much- maligned creative output.

Not surprisingly, any changes made by these two have yet to reap rewards, so the agency has come up with a fast-track solution.

Rumour has it that the subject of a recent AGM was how to turn the agency around, and quickly. A range of suggestions left those present at the meeting deflated until one bright spark came up with what he thought was a solution: get one of McCann's senior bods to marry one of Campaign's editorial team.

You might be desperate, but we're not.
