Diary: Over-eager bouncers try to put kibosh on Mali gig

OK, so the Stereo MCs probably aren't as recognisable these days, but as they were headlining a Brothers and Sisters fundraiser last week, they might have expected to be able to breeze in with no fuss.

Instead, the doormen stopped them and demanded £10 each - which the five band members refused to pay - to get into the party. After a few enquiries, the hip hop outfit was finally allowed inside, where it was joined by more than 200 revellers who raised just under £5,000 for a school project in Bamako, Mali, by enjoying Mali-themed cakes and cocktails.

Kevin Brown, the agency's digital director, flew to Mali with the dosh to give a primary school a facelift. Their trip is on www.twitter.com/broandsis.
