Doing a first ad is always a daunting task. So when Campaign did a
feature recently profiling the first time for many of adland's finest,
sympathy flowed for Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/ Y&R's Robert Campbell,
who described his 1983 Virgin Atlantic shoot as "miserable" - adding: "I
was thin and poor, and rode a bicycle to work." Aah.
So imagine our surprise when this damning contrary evidence landed on
our desk.
We think you'll agree, readers, that far from looking gaunt and
penniless in this picture taken on the shoot, Campbell looks relaxed and
well as he relishes the Los Angeles sunshine, with a veritable
ear-splitting grin spread across his well-nourished face.
As for the bike claims, those around at the time of the shoot remain
perplexed. "No-one I knew when I worked there ever saw Robert on a
bicycle," one nonplussed colleague says. Maybe he meant a Harley
Davidson.
