Diary: On the QT ...

Avid QT readers will remember last week's tragic tale of Publicis' UK chairman, Tim Lindsay, being left stranded at The Ivy by an absent-minded MT Rainey.

Well, rumour has it that Rainey had in fact honoured the lunch engagement. The trouble is, she had gone to The Wolseley instead.

At the time of writing, it was unclear whose mistake it was. Rest assured though, an inquiry has been launched ... Ah, another day, another new Orange strategy. By now, you will probably have seen Mother's new spot for the phone company, which focuses on the 2003 black-out in New York. The ad brings back special memories for McCann Erickson's executive creative director, Robert Campbell, as it was during this black-out that he met his current girlfriend, Germit. How sweet ... Wasn't it Jane Austen who once wrote: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that an ad agency in possession of half a global account must be willing to pull a crazy stunt if it wants to win the other half"? Step forward Lowe London. The agency recently attempted to impress the marketing team at Omo (that's Persil to you and me) by pitching on a floor covered in grass ... Oddest PR strategy of the week goes to TBWA\London, which sent sweets to journalists and the like, while urging them to "come and get a taste of our new website." Sigh.
