Diary: Sarkozy has adland to thank for marital bliss

With love in the air, Diary felt it appropriate to investigate the tangled web of French romance, politics and advertising.

It transpires that the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, has an ad man to thank for his romance with new wife, Carla Bruni. A new book has revealed that Sarkozy enlisted the help of the Havas veteran Jacques Seguela to get to know the model better. Seguela called a dinner party and the rest, as they say, is histoire. But the adland favours don't stop there. Sarkozy and Bruni also enjoyed holidays using the private jets and yachts of none other than Vincent Bollore.

However, it does seem odd that Sarkozy should be so reliant on his ad chums to help him get the girl. After all, he did lose his ex-wife to Richard Attias, now the chairman of Publicis Events Worldwide.
