We know it's difficult to believe, but John Ayling is apparently as legendary hacking away at the opposition's legs on a hockey pitch as he is pitching in a boardroom.
This week, his prodigious talents in a veteran match for his local club were lauded in the pages of his local paper, as is right and proper for a player of his stature.
Our shorts- and shinpad-clad hero was reported to be ecstatic with the write-up, especially the bit which said: "John Ayling gave the full-back a real roasting." Until he was told the opponent in question was, ahem, 72 years old.
