DIARY: Uplifting days at M&C as partners view how the staff do business

Call it divine retribution if you like, but M&C Saatchi suffered an

annoying little transport problem of its own after its controversial

snaffling of the Transport for London account when its office lifts

broke down.

While Campaign can dismiss reports of Robin Wight following up his

lunchtime contretemps with M&C's Bill Muirhead by dashing across Golden

Square brand-ishing a hacksaw, it appears that the lift problem fostered

a new spirit of neighbourliness at the agency.

Although the founding partners love their top floor eeryie with its

sweeping rooftop views towards the London Eye, the prospect of hauling

an Ivy lunch up seven flights of stairs grew less appealing the longer

the "out of order" sign was up.

As a result, Messers Muirhead, Kershaw - and even Lord Maurice himself -

were often to be seen gatecrashing meetings and blagging cups of coffee

in the lower regions. "Suddenly, they became very sociable indeed," an

agency toiler confides.

Much relief all round though when the lift repairmen, having turned the

agency's supertrendy minimalist reception area into a building site,

upped tools and left.
