The CampaignLive Fantasy Agency League is back for a third year and
with Associated Newspapers' Metro as its new sponsor. Here's another
chance to concoct your own dream full-service agency staffed by the
finest talent in the UK ad industry. You score points each week based on
the performance of your employees' agencies in the real world. Scoring
will commence from next week.
Rules
The rules are on Channel Three of CampaignLive. com. That's where you go
to select your agency and to check your team's position. Each agency
consists of 14 key employees who must be "recruited" without busting the
salary budget of £2.7 million. Players are only allowed one
employee from each real agency. You will be able to hire and fire
members from your original dream team 12 times. So if you think a
particular agency is up for a massive win, it might be time to trade in
your chairman.
Scoring
All scoring is done automatically by CampaignLive. Updated scores and
tables will be available at the beginning of every week. Staff members
accrue points differently, according to their role - which is not
necessarily the same as they have in real life. In order to include as
many top names as possible, we have been a little creative with some job
titles. Likewise the salaries do not necessarily reflect a person's real
worth. They are set to reflect the individuals' estimated potential to
score points within the confines of the game.
The scoring goes like this: two points per £1 million of new
business won by an employee's real agency; lose two points per £1
million in billings lost. Campaign's Pick of the Week and Media Choice
will win the relevant agency two points a pop, but two points will also
be docked every time an agency gets Turkey of the Week.
More points are to be had for success at the Campaign Press, Poster,
Media and Direct awards. BTAA, D&AD, Cannes, IPA Effectiveness, APG
Planning, DMA, Aerials and IPA Media Effectiveness Awards could also see
your team showered with points, so pick your high-flyers carefully.
Creative directors score double for Picks or creative awards but nothing
for planning, direct or media awards. Planning directors score double
for IPA Effectiveness and APG Awards but nothing for creative, direct or
media awards. New-media directors score points only for dotcom wins and
losses. Heads of direct marketing score for Campaign Direct Awards and
DMA Awards. Media planning directors score double for media awards and
Media Choice.
Broadcast and non-broadcast directors score for media awards and Media
Choice but only if the winning execution is in their medium.
New-business directors score an additional two points for every
pitchlist for accounts worth more than £1 million than their
agency gets on to. However, they don't get any points for Picks, Turkeys
or awards.
If an employee moves to another agency in the real world, his score
continues to depend on the performance of the agency he is listed under
until Campaign updates the staff pool.
A list of the "events" that dictate the scoring will be posted each week
on CampaingLive. This list will be accessible for one week only and will
then be superseded by the following week's list.
The value of wins or losses will come from clients where possible,
otherwise listings in MMS will be used to determine the size of an
account. When international pieces of business are won, the value of the
win to the London office will be credited.
Registration
This can only be done online. Go to CampaignLive.com, wait for the
homepage to download, then click on the number three. Try and sign up
for the start of the league, but don't worry if you miss the first few
weeks, the game runs for 12 months and a year is a very long time in
advertising.
Prizes
This time next year Metro will supply the person with the highest score
with a free weekend for two in a European city. Each month the player
with the most improved score will win a prize, also supplied by Metro,
including Palm Pilots, mobile phones and mini discs. The winners will be
announced in Campaign's Diary.
