Redwood Publishing, the Abbott Mead Vickers Group’s contract

publishing company, has expanded into continental Europe by setting up

an office in Germany.

Redwood Brand Publishing, based in Dusseldorf, opened its doors last

week with a mission to target blue-chip German companies.

It is Redwood’s second overseas office since it opened Redwood Marketing

Services in South Africa last year in a partnership with the publishing

company, Perskor.

The Dusseldorf office has been set up in conjunction with the

advertising agency, BBDO Germany, which is part of the network that owns

a substantial minority stake in the AMV agency in London.

Redwood Brand Publishing will be completely indep-endent of Redwood’s UK

operation.

Redwood’s international publishing director, James McCleod, said: ’This

operation will not only be for national German accounts, but will serve

German companies worldwide. It’s local in as much as it’s based in

Dusseldorf, but we will attract accounts which can publish from

Germany.’

He added: ’At this juncture, we don’t have a client base, but we will

target the BBDO client network within Germany. We are targeting

automotive, finance, retail, food, household, travel and telecoms

companies.’

The office is part of Redwood’s plans to step up its overseas

operations, McCleod explained. ’I’m extremely keen to go into France,

Asia, with an office in Hong Kong, and the US. These are the areas I am

targeting and we want to make sure we get these absolutely right.’

He added that Redwood would like to set up further overseas joint

ventures with BBDO. ’We already have shared goals so they will be our

first port of call.’

Redwood is Europe’s leading publisher of customer magazines, printing

110 million magazines a year with distribution in 35 countries. It has

been part of the AMV Group for four years, and has overseas clients

including Marks & Spencer, Volvo, ICI’s Dulux and the Austrian crystal

maker, Swarovski.

Michael Baulk, the AMV Group’s chief executive, said: ’For some time

we’ve been looking for opportunities for Redwood to export its skills

and this joint venture is a great chance to do just that.’
