DM agencies pitch for disability task

The Department of Work and Pensions is talking to agencies about an integrated brief to raise awareness of the Disabilities Act among small and medium-sized enterprises.

The pitch is being handled by COI Communications. The DWP is already in talks with agencies and is in the process of drawing up a shortlist of four below-the-line agencies.

The majority of the brief will be for direct marketing to make companies aware of their obligations to disabled employees. The campaign will be the second phase of marketing activity as part of the Government's bid to encourage the employment of disabled people and counter discrimination.

Under the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act, the Government is committed to making disability discrimination as offensive as race, sex and age discrimination.

The first stage of the campaign launched last year and involved work by HHCL/Red Cell. The ads ran across TV, radio, press and outdoor, and media planning was through Manning Gottlieb OMD.
