Dobson promoted to head of global sales at Microsoft

LONDON - Microsoft has promoted MSN's Chris Dobson to the role of head of global sales for its online services group.

Dobson, who was general manager of digital marketing sales and trade marketing for the international arm of MSN, will take responsibility for global advertising sales across the newly formed Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions network, incorporating MSN,, Office Online,, Xbox, Microsoft TV, Massive and mobile content.

His focus will be on building stronger relationships with consumers and the media industry, including advertisers and agencies.

Dobson said: "Microsoft is demonstrating its total commitment to the global advertising market place by basing the sales leadership team in London and New York - the two major centres of advertising excellence - while further strengthening our credentials as a truly global advertising company representing current and future audience assets across the whole of Microsoft."

Dobson's appointment follows a successful career as general manager in international sales and marketing at MSN. During his tenure he led the development of business outside the US after the dotcom crash as well as turning MSN Hotmail and MSN Messenger into a profitable business.

It is the first time the position has been based outside the US, and follows Joanne Bradford's move to MSN from her roles as Microsoft's corporate vice-president of global sales and chief media revenue officer.
