Bartle Bogle Hegarty has lured Pat Doherty, the Abbott Mead Vickers
BBDO senior copywriter, to be its joint creative director as it
reorganises its top-level creative structure.
The agency is to replace its current line-up of four creative directors
with two, who will report to the chairman and overall creative director,
Graham Watson is standing down at his own request as a creative director
to team up with fellow ex-creative director, Steve Hooper, whose
partner, Dennis Lewis, is leaving BBH because he plans to move to
Meanwhile, Bruce Crouch, Watson’s former partner and creative director,
will run the creative department jointly with Doherty.
Doherty trained at Watford College after graduating and started her
career at Saatchi & Saatchi in 1982. She left Saatchis for Still Price
Lintas to work with Adrian Kemsley in 1993 and joined AMV in 1994.
She is best known for her work on the BT commercial starring Stephen
Hawking, for the ’life’ spot for Yellow Pages and for the highly
regarded Alka Seltzer ’life boat’ ad.
Hegarty described Doherty as ’outstanding’ and his search for the right
person as ’long and arduous’.
He commented: ’This is about taking BBH on for the next 15 years. We
appointed four creative directors to take the load off me and some liked
doing the job, others didn’t. We’re not unhappy with the department -
it’s while you’re doing well that you should introduce new blood.’
