Voting has opened via YouTube and the Doritos website, with the public deciding who lands the main $1m (£656,000) prize and Doritos marketers choosing who wins the runner-up prize of $50,000 (£32,800).
The main prize includes the chance to work as a contractor for a full-year onsite at Universal Pictures in Hollywood.
A UK entry has been shortlisted for the first time in the form of commercials and film director James Bedford’s "angler" spot (below), although it is only the second year the contest has been open to non-US entrants.
The other nine contenders for the 30-second spots are:
"The lemonade stand" by David Horowitz, US
"What could go wrong?" by Alex Pepper, US
"When pigs fly" by Graham Talbot, Canada
"Baby's first word" by Travis Braun, US
"Middle seat" by Scott Zabielski, US
"Doritos manchild" by Armand de Saint-Salvy, Australia
"Selfish sneezers" by Devon Ferguson, Canada
"Mis-spelling bee" by Brian Kleinschmidt, US
"Trouble in the back seat" by Jason Johnson, US
