His appointment fills a role that has been vacant since Andrew Fraser quit to join Rapier as its executive creative director in April.
Wilmont was the executive creative director of Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in New York, before returning to the UK in 2004. Since then, he has been working at Naked as a creative director.
At DraftFCB, Wilmont will be responsible for all creative output across its advertising, digital and DM departments. He will report to Nigel Jones, the president of DraftFCB's London office, and Jonathan Harries, the agency's global chief creative director, who is based in Chicago.
He began his career at BMP DDB in 1982, before helping to set up Still Price Court Twivy D'Souza in 1986.
He moved to the US in 1994 to be a creative director at Merkley Newman Harty, before joining Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in 1998.
DraftFCB declined to comment on the hiring. Wilmont did not respond to calls.
