EDITORIAL: Independent tabloid walks a fine line

A bold and innovative move or a last desperate throw of the dice? The Independent's experiment with a tabloid version of the paper for a trial period can be interpreted both ways. Advertisers will be worried that the tabloid will cannibalise, not grow, the readership. Design will be crucial. Make it look too much like an existing tabloid and regulars will be turned off. Make it look like a scaled-down broadsheet and it risks anonymity.
