David Kershaw's golf handicap is unlikely to improve in his new role as the Advertising Association's chairman. Sober-sided Eurocrats and Whitehall mandarins tend to prefer talking across the table rather than over the tee. This isn't to say Kershaw's schmoozing skills won't come in handy in Brussels and Whitehall, where threats to advertising freedoms are real and constant. What's more, the M&C Saatchi founding partner will be the voice of an industry which likes him and which he knows well. Not bad ambassadorial credentials.
