Editorial: A parting of the ways was predictable

Rupert Howell doesn't do modesty. John Dooner doesn't do humility. So there was a sense of inevitability about last week's announcement concerning a parting of the ways between McCann Erickson's EMEA regional head and the boss of the network.

Howell springs from a creative and entrepreneurial culture, while Dooner is defined by Madison Avenue, and runs a huge money-making machine, in which the bottom line takes precedence.

It's not that either are wrong in the way they act, but they were always probably going to be wrong for each other.
