Philippa Edward has taken over as European sales manager of FT.com

following the departure of Gareth Jones.

Jones was unavailable for comment but colleagues said he had gone to

work as a consultant for an expanding web recruitment site.

Edward was formerly business development manager at FT.com, where she

has worked since last October.

Jones’s departure will come as a blow to the organisation, which lost

its head of sales Anthony Carbonari to Disney Interactive late last year

(Media Business, 15 November).

FT.com is in the process of bolstering its sales department to cope with

the development of its website into a global business portal. It is

thought to be looking for at least six recruits.

The Financial Times’ parent Pearson has committed around pounds 40

million to the transformation of the site. It claims to deliver business

and financial news and analysis to two million registered users in 239

countries.

FT.com is playing an important role in building the newspaper’s brand in

the US.
