Eurosport’s sales team has signed up four big-name sponsors for

this year’s European Championships and is on schedule to book all its

advertising spots for the event by the end of January.

Hyundi, Phillips, Fujifilm and Carlsberg have all come on board as

official broadcast sponsors of the football tournament, which will kick

off in June.

The TV channel’s sales team has also booked 90 per cent of its spot ads

and is confident of filling every slot by the end of the month.

Advertisers already in the bag include Gillette, Coca-Cola, Opel cars,

the Italian sportswear brand Lotto and Motorola.

’It’s great news to have confirmed four high-profile brands as major

sponsors at such an early stage,’ said Eurosport’s UK sales director

Dominic Burns. ’Euro 2000 is the biggest football event of the year and

it sets the seal on a year of top-quality action on the channel.

’We are now looking to confirm the core sponsors of our live coverage of

this summer’s Olympic Games.’

Eurosport, which is planning extensive live coverage of the European

Championships, is broadcast via cable, digital and satellite to 91

million homes across Europe.
