Eurosport installs team to sell YOZ

Eurosport has created a dedicated sales team to handle advertising and sponsorship for its Youth Only Zone (YOZ), after deciding to step up its ’trend sports’ output.

and sponsorship for its Youth Only Zone (YOZ), after deciding to step up

its ’trend sports’ output.



Sales manager Michael Lams has been chosen to front the team.



Lams, a Eurosport employee of two years, is on the hunt for a sales

manager to assist with the UK market and complement ones already in

place in Munich and Paris.



Eurosport has just signed a deal with the German sports marketing

company Bordercross Marketing and Consulting to jointly produce trend

sports programmes for YOZ .



YOZ targets under-20s and broadcasts coverage of snowboarding,

kiteboarding and BMX-ing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.



Eurosport is planning to increase its trend sports coverage by

broadcasting 12 winter events and four summer events.



Dominic Burns, Eurosport’s sales director for the UK, Netherlands and

Scandinavia, said the events will give advertisers an additional media

vehicle.



Burns thought there were ’enormous opportunities’ for smaller, niche

advertisers that have not traditionally run big-budget campaigns.



The new YOZ team will complement the existing European sales force,

which will continue to sell YOZ.



Burns said the new team would concentrate on selling event sponsorship,

while the existing sales team would handle airtime.



Before joining Eurosport, Lams worked for the trade magazine M&M

Europe.



In a separate announcement, Eurosport has promoted its sales manager Liz

Jones to deputy sales director.
