Event Awards 2017: Debating the latest catering trends

Judges for this year's Event Awards gathered at KitchenAid in London to assess entries for the Caterer of the Year award and to debate some of the food scene's hottest trends.

Jade Lancashire, senior media manager at Golin, highlighted the strong use of British produce and interesting flavour combinations, such as apple sorbet with olives. Katrina Davison, junior brand manager, Cadbury Dairy Milk Tablets, Mondelez, also noted an emphasis on sourcing ingredients that have a British provenance and pointed to trends in "sharing" dishes and how food is being presented in a more vibrant way, with strong colours and edible flowers.

Street food is still proving very popular, according to Gary McKechnie, director of food at Harbour & Jones, and he is also seeing strong demand for healthier, "cleaner" food options, such as dishes with less gluten and less dairy.

All the winners for the Event Awards 2017 will be announced tomorrow (22 November) at the ceremony, taking place at the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith.
