Event TV: Renault unveils immersive video experience

Renault is offering car racing fans the chance to experience its UK Clio Cup Championship event first-hand, via a new immersive video that utilises 360-degree technology.

Filmed at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, the three-minute video enables consumers to see what is it like to steer a race spec version of a Renault Sport Clio 220 Turbo EDC car around the track during a Clio Cup race.

Renault employed a Ladybug 360-degree camera and three bespoke GoPro devices to create the video, meanwhile it enlisted 2009 Clio Cup champion Phil Glew to drive the car, who remains hidden from view. 

The video is available to view via a desktop computer and smartphone. Those who opt for the latter can tilt their device up, down, left and right to view the race from different perspectives, including the starting line, front grill, driver’s seat and an aerial view.

Aiden White, digital communications manager, Renault Group UK, said: "To watch a Clio Cup race car fly around the track is a special sight, but to see it from behind the wheel is even better. This outstanding 360-degree footage thrusts viewers into the heart of the action and lets them experience this exceptional car at race speed."
