McDonough, who has experience in FMCG and retail, joins in December and replaces Kenrick, who is understood to be moving to pursue non-executive roles.

He was formerly UK marketing director for Asda, but left the business amid a shakeup of the marketing team in January.

At Asda he was responsible for marketing of retail, home shopping, George and financial services. Prior to that he was UK Managing Director for brands with Molson Coors for several years, and UK marketing and R&D director for dairy giant Muller, where he also had overall responsibility for the Irish business.

McDonough started his career at Mars, where he progressed through various commercial and marketing roles to become German Pet Care commercial director.

"I am delighted that Chris is joining the team and look forward to welcoming him to the business," said managing director Echo Lu.

"With his functional expertise, diverse experiences and collaborative style, he will be a great asset as we go through the next stage in our journey to be a more customer focused brand.

I would also like to thank Jo Kenrick for her dedication and contribution in the four years she has been with Homebase and wish her all the best."
