Chris Boyd, the former managing director of IPC Southbank, has been

appointed chief executive officer of the Audit Bureau of

Circulation.

Boyd left IPC at the end of 1998 to become a publishing consultant. He

will take up his new role in September, replacing Simon Devitt, who left

the ABC in April.

Boyd’s career at IPC spanned nearly three decades. He started out as a

sales executive in 1970. He subsequently became group sales manager on

the women’s weeklies and publisher of Ideal Home.

In 1989 he was appointed publishing director of the specialist group and

then of the TV weeklies. He became managing director of Southbank in

1998.

Boyd joins the ABC at a time of change as it extends its services beyond

print and exhibitions into digital media.
