Explore revamps to become National Geographic TV

LONDON – The TV licensing arm of the National Geographic channel, Explore International, is to be relaunched as National Geographic Television International and has appointed a new senior management team as part of its initiative to strengthen the core brand.

National Geographic president Ian Jones, who took the helm from Barbara Bellini in June this year, said the new senior management team would include Michelle Waldron, former head of consumer at Biss Lancaster Euro RSCG, as director of marketing and communications.

Sales director Edwina Thring is to be promoted to head of programmes and former TV Corporation sales director Anne Fuge to the new position of head of sales at National Geographic Television International.

The newly formed company is also aiming to consolidate its global brand by bringing together the best independent factual production companies to make more series and one-off specials for the channel.

Jones said: "There have been a great number of changes at the company over the years and with new people and processes in place, to 'start afresh' for Mipcom [the international TV market] now seemed like the ideal opportunity to re-present ourselves and our business to broadcasters and TV producers worldwide."
