Following in the footsteps of Radiohead, who released their last album 'In Rainbows' on a similar basis, readers are invited to download a PDF or e-book version of 'What Price Liberty?' by Ben Wilson.
The offer is available via the WhatPriceLiberty.co.uk site between now and June 4, when the book will be published in trade paperback format and sold for £14.99.
The book is a discussion on the value and meaning of liberty and has been called "brilliant, timely and readable" by Labour stalwart Tony Benn.
As well as publicising the new book, the promotion is meant to provoke readers to think about what their liberty is worth.
Henry Volans, head of digital publishing at Faber and Faber, said: "Given the nature of the book, its title and subject matter, there's a great deal of sense in attaching this particular promotion.
"In some senses, the ideas of the book are far grander than the question of what someone is happy to pay for an e-book, but there is a natural synergy."
However, the publisher was keen to point out that this campaign did not mean that it believed e-books should be free or extremely cheap.
