Faith in digital TV is on the up as homes sign on to Freeview

Nearly one in eight households anticipate taking up Freeview, the digital terrestrial television venture from Sky and the BBC, according to research by Mediaedge:cia.

The report also revealed that 3 per cent plan to take up the service before Christmas, despite the fact that Freeview had a relatively soft launch last week.

Confidence in digital television overall has returned to levels of a year ago after it was severely dented by the collapse of ITV Digital.

The survey claims that the number of people expecting to go to digital over the next six months has doubled from 3 per cent in April to 6 per cent now.

However, DTV still faces huge obstacles in convincing the over-65s of the benefits of its service as the number of people in this age group who are still adamant that they will not take up DTV has not changed since last year.
