Finlandia Vodka, the premium spirit brand from Finland, is talking

to agency networks about its global advertising account as it moves to

pitch itself against trendy rivals such as Absolut Vodka.

The DDB, Grey and Ammirati Puris Lintas networks are pitching for the

account. There is no direct incumbent on the business, as it is the

first time that the account will be run on a global basis.

DDB is the incumbent in Finland while in the US the business has been

handled by the Lowe Group subsidiary, the Martin Agency, since 1997.

There is no UK incumbent but the global campaign would probably run

here.

The agency hunt is being conducted by Finlandia’s Helsinki-based head of

marketing, Eva Wuite Lindholm, who confirmed: ’We are in the middle of

pitching.’

Sources were unable to give an indication of what the advertising budget

will be, but the company spends dollars 15 million a year in the US

alone.

The search for an agency coincides with the brand moving its UK

distribution out of Allied-Domecq and into Highland Distillers, a switch

which became effective from the start of this week.

Other brands distributed by Highland Distillers include Famous Grouse

Finest Scotch Whisky and the Macallan Highland Malt Whisky.
