Kevin Shute, business development director of CIA Medianetwork,
once spent a summer on planet rock
’After I left Leeds University I got a summer job as a concert
promoter.
I helped organise U2’s Joshua Tree tour and the Monsters of Rock
festival with Bon Jovi.
’I had to do everything from trying to find lemongrass - a bloody
difficult task in Cardiff - because U2 wanted to make Thai curry, to
buying diesel for the forklift trucks.
’The U2 concert was OK but I hated Bon Jovi. I couldn’t stand all those
greasy, long-haired fans. It wasn’t like working in media. But having
said that, there are almost as many arseholes in media as there are in
the music industry.’
