Jerry Springer is the US's top rating talk show programme, having toppled the long time leader, Oprah.

Flextech has won the rights for the programme from January until it ceases production. It is believed to be paying around $5 million a year for the rights, and is understood to have beaten off a number of rivals including BSkyB.

Flextech airs the programme on its UK Living Channel, part of most basic entry-level cable packages. A recent all Springer weekend attracted more than five million viewers for the channel, an unprecedented five fold increase in the channel's typical audience share.

Flextech is hoping that the Jerry Spinger Show will bring it increased advertising revenue to follow the rise in audience.
