- Motor giant Ford is joining the MXR Radio Consortium as a shareholder.
Ford will promote use of digital radio by fitting digital radios in new cars sold in the UK by 2004. It will also promote digital radio upgrades through its dealerships.
MXR, which is currently submitting its bids for the first round of digital radio licenses, is a consortium backed by Chrysalis Radio, Capital Radio, Jazz FM, Guardian Media Group and Soul Media.
Phil Riley, chairman of MXR, said: "This represents the biggest positive step for the uptake of digital radio in the UK. MXR is committed to making its partnership with Ford work for the success of digital radio across the UK."
