Ford loss takes its toll as O&M London announces redundancies

- Ogilvy & Mather has confirmed that 20 people were made redundant on Thursday and that a restructuring plan is to be announced shortly.

The redundancies were attributed to the agency's loss of the £65 million Ford Europe business to Young & Rubicam earlier this year, and a predicted economic downturn.

It is understood that as many as four creative teams are among those to be made redundant, some of whom have been given options to consider within the wider WPP Group.

Tom Bury chief executive of O&M, said: "It is disappointing to have to take this kind of action, but like any business we cannot carry cost unsupported by revenue. Thankfully, recent new business wins such as Thorn, Saga, COI and Eurotunnel allowed us to keep the number of redundancies to a minimum."

The agency said staff had been informed of the redundancies and details of the agency restructure will be released next week. The exact breakdown of the redundancies is not known. O&M declined to comment further.
