– Freeserve, the UK's leading internet service provider, has partnered with iWeb to license its online advertising and messaging product, iNotes.

Under the partnership, iNotes will be offered as an option to all Freeserve's 1.5 million active subscribers.

iNotes enables Freeserve to deliver useful information and advertising relevant to its customers whilst they are browsing, regardless of the website being visited.

With iNotes, advertisers are able to target individuals with messages based on their user profile and geographic location.

iWeb claims one of the major benefit of iNotes is that it provides ISPs with a cost effective way of generating additional revenue from online advertising.

John Pluthero, Freeserve chief executive officer, said: "iNotes will enable us to offer new services to both our subscribers and advertising partners that complement our free internet access model. User feedback from our iNotes trials was very positive and we are looking forward to deploying iNotes across our entire service."

In Beta trials iNotes was used to send content messages including sports, news, TV listings, network status specific messages and advertising messages to Freeserve members. An iNotes message was sent approximately once every five minutes.

iWeb claims the vast majority (88%) of users involved in the trial found the service unobtrusive and valuable.
