The tea company Punjana is aiming to build its presence in Scotland
with a new TV campaign starring members of the Thompson family, which
owns the company.
Fresh, the agency that won the account from Doner Cardwell Hawkins a
year ago, has brought in Mike Stephenson to direct what is its first
work for Punjana and the brand's first TV campaign.
Stephenson has recently set up his own production company, Moon, but
this was his last work while still at the Paul Weiland Film Company. He
art directed and directed the campaign, which consists of three
30-second and four ten-second ads.
In the ads, David and Ross Thompson are shown tasting and testing
tea.
Each ad features an actor in a case of mistaken identity to show how
expensive and time consuming it is to achieve a pure blend of tea. They
are backed with a bizarre yodelling music track to create a fun
atmosphere.
Stephenson said: "The Thompsons are genuinely fanatical about tea so the
challenge was working with non-actors and actors and using that to our
advantage."
Despite being a premium brand, Punjana competes with the market leaders
- Tetley and PG.
