Fru Hazlitt, the sales director responsible for setting up Capital
Radio Advertising, is leaving the company to join Yahoo! as European
sales director.
Hazlitt takes up the position early in the new year and will be
responsible for managing sales across Yahoo!’s eight European
operations.
Her main task will be to encourage advertisers to use Yahoo!’s global
network instead of restricting their advertising to local sites.
Hazlitt will be based at Yahoo! Europe in the UK, although a new
European head office is being sought.
’I felt that at Capital I had the best sales job there is and I wouldn’t
have left it to go to another UK media owner. I was attracted to this
position because I wanted to know what business is like outside the
UK.
It will be interesting to learn from other countries and it’s also very
exciting to work in the fast-moving world of new media,’ Hazlitt
said.
She added: ’I am devastated to leave but it is the opportunity of a
lifetime.’
The new position will see Hazlitt reunited with her former boss, Martina
King, who became Yahoo!’s UK and Ireland managing director in
September.
King was previously managing director of Capital.
However, Hazlitt, who was appointed by Yahoo! Europe, and King will be
located in separate offices.
Jerry Glover, commercial director for Yahoo! Europe, said: ’I am
delighted to welcome Fru to Yahoo!. This is a key role on our European
senior management team and we feel that she has the right experience,
personality and creativity to make an impact on our business.’
Hazlitt became group sales director of Capital Advertising in 1997 after
the winding down of its former operation, Media Sales and Marketing. She
headed a team of around 150 and was responsible for a number of
initiatives, including the creative services department.
Hazlitt joined Capital in 1993 as group sales manager but was promoted
to head of client sales two years later. Before that she was agency
sales executive at The Guardian.
