A former Financial Times journalist is to launch an online service specialising in financial comment.
The site, BreakingViews.com, will provide views on breaking stories and intends to establish itself as Europe's leading online financial information brand. The service will be targeted at investors, financial professionals and corporate executives.
BreakingViews.com is to be edited by Hugo Dixon, who was until recently head of the Financial Times' Lex column. Writers for the site will include Jonathan Ford, another member of the Lex team.
The company has just completed its first round of fundraising and is now in the process of hiring a team of managers and other journalists.
Dixon said: "BreakingViews.com will be independent and punchy. In a world where people are ensnared in a thicket of information, we will cut to the chase. We will hunt out investors' interests. The internet is leading to an explosion in the number of online investors who are hungry for views they can use. BreakingViews.com aims to become the leading brand in this market."
