Future set to close Wedding Day title

Future is to close Wedding Day magazine, which has almost halved in circulation since the publisher bought it from Beach Publishing Group two years ago.

The title recorded an ABC of 16,118 for the July to December 2005 period, down from a peak of 31,679 before its sale.

Wedding Day was acquired in 2001 by Crimson Business Ltd. It moved from ex-Sunday Express editor Eve Pollard's company, Parkhill Publishing, to Beach Publishing in late 2002 and then to Future in 2004.

Future acquired parenting titles Junior and Junior Pregnancy & Baby at the same time, which it will continue to publish.

Simon Wear, Future's group publishing director, said the level of investment needed to put Wedding Day into a position of "sustainable performance" had proved too great.

It was the only wedding title in Future's portfolio. Future has now folded four magazines in 18 months as it plans to concentrate on its core markets and launch more websites. In March, it reported a year-on-year pre-tax loss of £12.1m for the six months to 31 March.
